This was bound to happen sooner or later, and sooner it is: still over a month before its official public unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in October, the new Ferrari California has been spotted in its element: the streets of San Francisco.
The car was ostensibly there for a promotional photo shoot, but its presence in Northern California this close to Pebble Beach makes us wonder if Ferrari isn't planning an early peek on the putting green in Monterey. Whether at Pebble or Paris, we'll be there to bring you the latest, so stayed tuned. In the meantime check out the (admittedly blurry) photos in the gallery below.
We just received a full load of pictures of the steamy and dreamy 2009 Ferrari California. Ever since the new Ferrari GT made its well-planned debut, we've been slowly digesting the few images we've seen, hungry for more like them. In full, high-color, close-up, car-pr0n detail, we're now treated to views of the new Ferrari from every conceivable angle and all sorts of interior and exterior details. For instance, the steering wheel is pure sex and the gauge cluster has a slick monitor off to the left which details all kinds of fun driver information. We're even able to see the car has a dedicated "launch" button. This, we like. But were we pleased about everything we saw?
No. We don't like the nav system. It looks terrifyingly like a repainted Chrysler unit. Also...umm...well...actually, that's pretty much it. Hmm, well, anyway — let's just get back to the awesome, shall we?
The briefcase shelf in the back even folds down for trunk pass-through action. What's that? Those are seats? Oh. Ouch. We also get a peek under the hood at the direct-injected 4.3-liter V8 that'll be making the well-heeled sing the praises of it's 424 horses of goodness. Anyway, take a peek for yourselves folks, 'cause that right there is how you make a damn fine-looking automobile.
Have money and don’t know what to do with them? Do you think that Ferrari is too common? (ya right!) If you want to have your own, unique model, you will be happy to know that Ferrari is thinking on creating your own custom series.
Of course the price for such a luxury is somewhere around 2 million euro. You will have the chance to choose a model currently in production and while the chassis, engine and airbag will have to remain the same, the rest can be exclusively designed and created, and all the materials will be delivered to the customer.
A Dino will never happen, but how about a Ferrari flat-six engine? According to AutoTelegraaf that block in on the agenda. According to Roberto Fedeli, a company spokesman, a V6 Turbo engine in a part of plans. The new engine will meet the future environmental requirements but will keep the current Ferrari’s performance.
"A turbo engine is one of the developments of the "Research & Design" department," he said. "It will be smaller in size and capacity than the current V8 and V12 engines."
"Within two years we will determine what engine is the most suitable for the development starting 2013 to 2016. Now we have to look at all possibilities."
"We always looked for the best technical solution. The only thing we will never do is a four-doors sedan. That is not a sports car. An SUV either."
