A good source for quality metric lock nuts is a fleet truck supply, I needed to replace a few on my 328 when I replaced my w/p tensioner pulley and Trutlands wanted $5 each for them, I got 10 Zinc with nice Blue sealing washers for $2.
Dale McFadden a national fastener supplier sells many of the quality type of Metric taps you refer to.
I agree on the some of the dealer speed mechanics, stripping bolts with their air ratchets and scratching paint is what they do!
