Just because we didn't bring you any photos of the Ferrari 599 Spyder from Pebble Beach, it doesn't necessarily mean the car wasn't there. And no, it didn't slip past our camera lens.
Thanks to a letter posted on Luxury4Play and subsequent confirmation through readers of Autoblog, we've learned that Ferrari did in fact preview a "Roadster" version of the 599 in Monterey. The event was understandably private, with all in attendance forced to surrender their phones and cameras, while also being asked to sing an NDA.
According to reports from those in attendance, the drop-top 599 uses a fabric roof similar to the one found on the Lamborghini Murcielago or Porsche Boxster Spyder, with a removable glas window in the rear. This setup allows Ferrari to keep the drop-top 599's weight almost identical to that of the coupe.
The best news, however, is that under the hood was the more powerful version of the 6.0-liter V12 found in the 599 GTO. That means a power increase of almost 10 percent, up to 670-hp from the coupe's 612-hp output.
Just 100 versions of the car are believed to be built and priced at a significant premium over the coupe.
