Ferrari's new shoe-shaped FF four-seater all-wheel drive machine may be a distinct break with the past for the Italian automaker, but don't look for other models to follow that format – even if they do borrow a few parts.
Gleaned from conversations with Franco Cimatti, one of the prancing horses top engineers, as well as Raffaele De Simone, a test driver for the company, is news that the successor to the 599 will use a version of the FF's direct-injection 6.3-liter V12 engine. Power will be even greater, however, with the block tuned to pump out 700-hp.
The AWD system will not, however, be a part of the package and the aforementioned company reps were clear that Ferrari has no plans to introduce such a system on its more performance-oriented models. Also out, is offering an AWD version of a normally rear-drive car. Another all-wheel drive Ferrari is, however, a possibility, so if Ferrari does decide to move ahead in this direction, look for the next-generation California to sport the added grip system.
