Default Maserati's M5 Killer Coming Next Year

Maserati has been rumored to be working on several new models, with the latest reports suggesting it will launch a new sports sedan under the Quattroporte model late next year. With a new QP in the works, it's expected the flagship saloon will grow slightly, making room for a mid-size luxury competitor to the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR.

This would then expand the Maserati lineup to four models, including the GranTurismo, GranTurismo convertible and the Quattroporte.

Believed to be based on the same platform as the Alfa Romeo 166 replacement, it would be offered with both V6 and top-level V8 engines and feature a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. We can't see how Maserati hopes to keep up with the M5 without some seriously impressive firepower under the hood, so perhaps this new model won't quite be at those levels. Then again, turbocharging is a strong possibility, with past rumors suggesting Maserati could make use of Chrysler's new Pentastar V6, with direct-injection and turbochargers to produce significant amounts of power.
