The overall result has been outstanding. A 575 owner from SLc said thye 550 out-performs his car (which I wonder is true). The welds that Meineke fixed in Omaha last summer were probably "California" (pretty) welds that weren't reinforced as much as needed because of the prototyping that was going on (I recall that we sent back one bank of cats for re-allignment). I understand the production cats are all welded with heavier beads.

So, the 550 cats and x-pipe are now for5 sale. IO know that a similar prototyping experience was run on a 575 after my car's success (with Dave Helms/ Scuderia Rampante doing fit and install and Hyperflow doing engineering) but to my knowledge there is still no 575 product.

Lokk and listen to the last shots and see how much faster the acceleration (tires breaking free) and shift-chnage throttle response is with the final version. A much faster car during 40-100 mph transitions to highways and so forth. Rear tires last 5-6,000 miles before THREAD. I buy Michelin PS2's by the six's. Car now has 48,000 miler on it. Bought it in 2004 with 11,300 miles.

Did Dave do any remapping (tuning) to the ECU? Sometimes more power can be found after a mod like this.

No, we didn't even discuss it. I didn't know he could do that.
The discussions I've had with dealer service people suggests to me that the V12 in the 550 wouldn't gain much from the remapping, as it's already so powerful. But I'm sure there's another opinion (certainly from the sellers of the chips who list higher hp, etc)

Wyo, Just for fun, you should put the car on a dyno with wide band O2, Log what is happening, and see if the fuel maps are not really rich in midrange and WOT. Most cars will pick up more power when retuned for performance, and we have seem a few get more power and BETTER gas mileage. Its the next step you really need to do. And, it just might be fun.

Hi Racer. Well, you make a pretty compelling case for trying a dyno and tune. Is this something you do?

I have done this, but not on a Ferrari. Last deal was a supercharger ( Procharger)On a Corvette at 6 lbs boost. Stock hp was 400,,, got 580 under boost,, safe tune for the street on 93 octane gas,,,, and cruising gas mileage went UP 2 mpg. Honest,,,, Up 2.
At WOT, mileage did go down,,, GASP!
Not sure what you might find on the 550, but I'll bet you a good Merlot that you will find your car will run better with a tune. might be hard to find a good tuner that knows Ferrari's, I'm sure not too many people have modified their F cars like you have.
