Oil sump cover

Just completed 30K service on 1981 308 GSTI no problem. Saw oildroppings on oil sump cover , oredered gasket now I can not get cover off. Sounds pretty elementry ? Does the cover just come off or is there some internal attachment?

Mike,
you have to take out the oil dipstick pipe and union (part #16 and #36)from the rear side of the engine. The pipe blocks an internal part of the cover.

you also need to remove the oil temp sender # 34 on the diagram.

Once you take the above steps and get the pan off you will see the internal baffleing and why these procedures are neccesary.
