Buying a wrecked ferrari

I am looking to buy my 1st Ferrari in the next year or so. I have seen some for sale that have some damage to them (ouch!!) I don't ever plan on selling the car that I buy, but I might be able to get a better model if it needs work than one that doesn't. Any suggestions?

You get what you pay for. These cars can really bite you in the a$$ if you don't do your homework. If the damage is just light damage and the PPI checked out, I would say go for it. If there is even the slightest bit of "doubt" I would walk. Fixing a Ferrari up is not cheap. Hell, keeping one running is not cheap either.

IMO buying a wrecked Ferrari makes no sense unless it is a rare and valuable example or one wishes to make a Track Car. Everyone says they never wish to sell, however most find that afer a few years thoughts of trading up or trading around start creeping into their heads. That trading most times involves selling one to get another.

Thanks for all the input. I had pretty much made up my mind about not doing it, but it's good to hear that others feel the same. It almost makes me cry to see a Ferrari in any condition than the best.

my opinion of wrecked Ferraris...the only ones worth buying and fixing are older ones that have some serious value. The cost is somewhat prohibitive, so it has to be worth it.

On the other hand, if one can buy a damaged car cheap and use it for parts of a good car he happens to have..well, go for it. Parts are much more expensive..on EBay right now there is a Daytona toolkit for some 6000 dollars. A daytona itself is only worth about 130 K right now. If that lousy toolkit is 6 grand, how about the engine, the calipers, the radiator, etc....

I second coach's point. I never did understand why anyone would pay such big money for a set of pretty crappy tools. I know about the concours thing, but still, the prices are unrealistic compared to car and component values.
