Help me design a Ferrari garagepart 1

A 4-lane highway is going right through my house, which the DOT will be buying this year, therefore, I will have to move.

I already have another home to move into, and am hoping to buy some extra land next door.

On this extra land, I am planning on building a "Ferrari" garage. It will be in 3 parts, all connected. The first part will be the service bay, with lift......the second will be a workshop......and the third, a 2-car Ferrari garage. This will be rectangular in shape, with walls between the 3 areas. That way each unit can be individually heated and air conditioned as needed. Rough sketches show the garage to be about 30 feet deep and 80 feet wide. Things like mower, lawn furniture, etc., will be placed in the existing 3-car garage next to the house........so NO "JUNK" in this new garage!!!!!!!!!!

First part------------Lift area:

I am thinking of making it 30 feet deep, 13 foot ceilings (since the lift has a hydraulic line at 12 feet, connecting the posts), with a 12 foot overhead door. I am not sure of the width. The lift is about 12 feet wide, so I am considering a 20 foot width. I plan on placing the lift off-center, so that there will be more room between the lift and the entry into the shop area, next to it.......maybe 3 feet between the lift and outside wall.....thus, 5 feet from the shop area. This is so that I can move an engine into the shop, which will have double wide doors in the wall separating the lift area from the shop.

What do you think? Any suggestions, or comments would be appreciated.

Man I want a lift so bad. It would really make things easier. Maybe one of those four post models so I can park the next Ferrari under this one. Maybe one day....

FWIW...I am jealous of you Henry. I would love to be able to design my own garage. Good luck with it.

I already have a lift.........currently in a VERY cold (no insullation) machine shed, 40' X 106'.

Jeremy: If you could design your own, how big would you make the lift area?

Man, at least six feet wider in each direction. You can never have enough room. That's one reason I like to visit JR's shop. There is a lot of working room. I hate feeling cramped. He has enough room to walk around the entire car without having to jump over things. Very nice.

How many sq. ft do you think you will have?

and what are you thinking for shape, square or rectangle?

with a hoist and a 4 post lift side by side you can have space for 4 cars temporarily and 3 cars at all times.

Don't forget about lighting either, I'm a lighting nut......lots of roof lighting, some windows for natiral light, and the newish wall lights just over waist high.

Nicely finished concrete floor, epoxy painted white or very, very light grey, sloping slightly if possible to make clean-up with a waterhose & soap and squeegee work easy and draining a snap. A flat entrance way/driveway to make pushing cars in & out for pressure washing possible with one person.

Those are the basics I would consider. Then you can expand on those ideas to include a heavy tool area, heavy duty room, etc.

JRV: The garage will be about 2400 sq ft (30 ft deep and about 80 ft wide). It will be rectangular in shape, with 3 sections; on the left will be the lift area (20'X 30') with 13 ft ceilings, for the lift, with a 13 ft overhead door; the center will be a workshop (30'X 30') with 9 ft ceiling (no overhead door); and the right side will be a 2 1/2 car garage.

There will be a wall between each section, with double wide doors between the lift and shop areas.....that way, I can roll an engine into the shop area.

The floor will be concrete, with possibly a drain in the lift area.

I am hoping that the 20 ft width, of the lift area, will be sufficient.

The plasma TV, and bar, will be in the shop area!!!!!!!!

I am currently building a house with a 4th attached garage for my hobby. I am going to run CAT5 and RG-6 wiring from a "home run" in the basement to hook up cable and high speed internet in the garage. Hook up an old computer for internet only for on the spot questions/download you may need while tinkering without trudging through the house all dirty to ask an online question

Nice! I have CAT5 running throughout my house for multimedia computers and so on. The garage is my next step. I'm considering wireless though. That way I can park a laptop anywhere I need/want it out there without being tethered to the wall.
