Default What does the word "Scuder

What does the word "Scuderia" really mean and when did it start to be used.
Way back in the late 1950's it was a race team in Australia Scuderia Veloce and today is still the name of the major Ferrari dealers in Australia.
But what does the word Scuderia mean or stand for?
Many said back in the 1950's it meant "Speedy one" but who knows???
