Default Hey there everyone, David, JRV

Hey there everyone, David, JRV, and Henry. Well...weeks of procrastination have come to an end and tonight I finally pulled my TR's engine out....again. This time I lifted the car off the cradle rather than lower the cradle out of the car. It seems much safer and more secure doing this way, especially since I work by myself. I bolted the rear wheels on, and used a small floor jack at the front of the engine, kinda like a tricycle, and rolled it all out the back. It worked out very well. I have not yet removed the cam belt covers to see where the infamous leak is....I will do that tomorrow and post some pics. I must say it's a much cleaner experience this time round after the big detailing job I did last fall. Stay tuned....

Default Jeff, I feel your pain... Ma

Jeff,
I feel your pain...
Maybe, sub-conciously, this is why I replace everything while I have the engine out???

When I had my shop, we would always lift the car off the engine (Porches..). To me, it seemed a bit simpler to do it that way.

Best of luck...

Regards,
David

Default Thanks for the well-wishes Rob

Thanks for the well-wishes Robert! Yeah...this motor-out method is really nice and safe for the do-it-yourselfer. You do have to raise the rear of the car up quite a bit to clear the tires as you roll the whole kit and kaboodle out the back. Prior to this I dropped it out on a large tranny-jack, not very comfortable using this method as the drivetrain is so wide and heavy, things could get out of hand in a hurry. I recommend the method I used this time, very safe. However....it remains to be seen how easy it goes back in this way. Tonight I'm gonna pull off the cam belt covers and see where this bastardly oil leak is coming from. I'll try and post some more pics.
