I finally got some time to finish changing my evap. emission lines. Something came up when I went to change the two lines going to the (what the manual states) 3-Way control valve. This is a whitish, plastic device located in the rear passenger wheel-well.
My evap lines were original, and based on the way the clamps were rusted in place, it is safe to say they have never been removed either. According to the manual printout I have (printed from Ferrari UK site), the LEFT side of the control valve, when looking at it head on from the wheel-well, is supposed to go to the bottom of the charcoal canister. The RIGHT side of the valve comes from another check-valve upstream.
Now unless the factory messed up, mine were reversed. The bottom of my charcoal canister goes to the RIGHT side of the control valve. I replaced them the way they were.
If this 3-way valve is bidirectional, this should not matter, but I am not familiar with how it should work.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Also, although the evap lines are 7mm ID, it looks like someone replaced the fuel lines with 8mm ID. Is 8mm ID correct for the fuel lines?
The valve is purely mechanical - it is bolted above the pass. rear wheel-well. The manual's description is pretty vague as to whether it is a unidirectional valve and there is not a one-way arrow on the valve in the fuel line schematic.
I have it hooked up the way it was from the factory, but after seeing the drawing, I am not sure what is right!?
Hi Anthony,
I went through the same thing on my '78 and found a large exploded view of the valve somewhere. It showed the valve to be purely mechanical and operated by pressure or vacuum depending on fume direction.
Did you just purchase this valve or did it come with the car?. I tried to get one for mine but it didn't seem to be available or it was misidentified as an electrovalve. Never did find a 'good' part number for it.

The valve is original and on the car. The car is all original and the evap lines were untouched, so for now, I am assuming the factory was right in the way it was hooked up and the drawings are incorrect. I have found other minor inconsistencies with the factory drawings also.
If you're not registered, do so. It will take a few days for the registration to go through (don't know why but it does). Log in and go the the parts/search area. Download the isoview program and install.
Put in your car model, year, fuel system, etc and search for valve. You'll find it, and an isometric drawing of the system and they have the valve. I want to say it was like $50 or more (no kidding).
Anthony, feel lucky you have the system attached. From what others have said, me included, it's been disabled on a lot of older 308's, and your car reeks of gas after shutdown as a result ( I have to leave the garage open for ~1hr to dissapate the fumes, but the smell is still there).
Yes I have seen the part on Ferrari's UK site, I just want to know how it works so I can determine if the factory install was correct(drawing wrong) or the drawing is correct.
