Default Hello all, I have an oil l

Hello all,

I have an oil leak under the car so I jacked it up and saw that there was oil dripping off the starter but it also looked like it was dripping from the 1-4 distributor and working it's way down the motor.

My question is....

1. could the starter be leaking oil and "blowing up" to the distributor?
2. could the distributor be leaking and "blowing over" to the starter?

The car runs and starts fine so there are no issues there except the freaking oil leak. It's only about 3 or 4 drops. nothing big.

If it's possibly the starter? how long will they last in this condition?

Really looking for opinions and not a solution.

Thanks

Default the starters definately cannot

the starters definately cannot leak oil, it MUST be coming from higher up and simply dripping down. I would suspect a cam cover gskt it it's dripping down onto the starter itself. usually the distrib seals leak onto the bellhousing and run down.

Default JRV, Thank you for the rep

JRV,

Thank you for the reply.

It's for sure not coming from the cam covers or the head gasket. It just had a major and I ran my hand over the engine while looking with a flash light.

I am beginning to think it's the oil (vent tubes? / blow by?) lines or the distributor is leaking and the oil is going down wires and hoses to the starter.

I will try and take a pic later.

Since starters don't leak I am safe on that account.

Default Looking at this diagram. I

Looking at this diagram.

I think "E" is the issue. I will take a deep look at it tonight.

I am thinking oil is leaking on "E" and following it down and "blowing" onto the started and blowing up to the 1-4 distributor.

Is that even possible?

Default E is the drainback breather ho

E is the drainback breather hose for the crankcase ventilation system...possible I suppose (not impossible perhaps, but highly unlikely). Have you checked your oil level to insure it's not overfilled?
