Default Russ, How pleased are you w

Russ,

How pleased are you with the operation of the Innovate Technologies A/F meter...? I've been thinking of installing a couple of O2 sensor on my BB to what is really happening whilst driving down the road...

Appreciate your input...

Regards,
David

Default In installing these mufflers,

In installing these mufflers, was there much modification needed to line up the flanges--or was it more of a bolt-on operation? Did you need to cut / bend/ fabricate any of the exhaust pipes leading to the muffler?

Default David Just a quick note as

David

Just a quick note as I took the plunge and got a wide-band O2 A/F meter. Chose the Inovate LM-1 from Pelican Parts over the Weber Alpha system from Pierce (who get $$$ from me already) as it was a bit less expensive and had a digital readout and computer interface the Alpha did not.

Pelican Parts is pretty hyper-efficient and even does order tracking for you, even though they drop shipped from Innovate (and were $10 less than the Innovate Website's price). They also made me a deal on the classic Momo Prototipo with silver spokes and I couldn't resist... It looks extremely classic Ferrari and feels terrific.

Nice instrument. Need a 12v source and comes with cig lighter plug, so some Ferrari guys will need a work-around.I use an old separate car battery I bought for $3 at the local Chevron as you need some amperage to run the probe heater. Comes with everything needed to measure A/F's - has other inputs for extra cost accessories such as rpm, etc.

So far pretty good, except it's made me a bit more obsessive (if that was possible) about my carb settings.

Well, life is interesting with an good A/F meter. I'm not the greatest in the world setting and synching these carbs, Lord knows, but here's so far. It's really amazing to watch and seems to be a very nice set-up.

With 15 degrees of advance at idle using the .55 idles I get a A/F in the mid 11's on the LM-1 with the set screws 1.5 to 2.5 turns out, and lots of blue on throttle application and boy does the garage and my clothes smell rich; flows of about 3 - 4 on the old S-k synch-o-meter at 900 and about 4 - 5 at 1200 where it sits off the adjust screws. The Lm-1 so far seems to work great.

I'm thinking of pulling back on the advance a hair. Although I know many folks run 55 and 60 idles on 308s, it just seems to me that perhaps 50 idles would be closer. Perhaps my vacuum signal with closed plates is just that much stronger and draws more gas. I'm going to let it cool down and change them this afternoon.

OBTW, went to F36 emulsions today, but I'm a long way from taking it on the road yet.

Bill -
Nothing special about the installation at all - the flanges are universal and move around anyway. Had the work done by local muffler shop no problem - apparantly this just isn't that hard. Would have been way easier and even less expensive if I had used pre-made dual resonated tips (like from Hooker) instead of the 4 seperate Ansas, but the deal was pretty good. If you just want open tips with a bit more volume, there are even more options.

best

Default Russ, I believe you'll

Russ,

I believe you'll find the .50 slow speed jet will ruin your transition phase...Best to leave the .55 jets in...and simply turn-in your idle screws to achive a leaner idle mixture setting. Remember that the "idle" jets have a substantial effect on the transistion mixture...

David

David
My response: Duh! Wish I had thought of that!

In my continuing effort to screwup a perfectly good running car by outsmarting myself, I decided to go down a size on my idle jets to cover a fairly rich idle istuation - (idling A/F in mid - 11s at 2 - 2.5 turns on the screws). It runs fine on 140/F24/190 if a bit rich. Well, changed the jets (55 to 50). It is also at this point where I made the agregious error of changing a couple of other things (like the fuel pump for a quieter model) in violation of the change only one thing at a time if you can rule.
Well, synch'd up the carbs within 0.5 on the flow meter at idle and got a composite A/F at idle of mid 13s ( LM-1s rock!) with about 1.5 turns out on the mixture screws. Well, went to rev it up and she went way rough and lean at 5000 rpm with A/F climbing through 16. I figure running out of fuel delivery on the main circuit so I think "oh crap, a bad fuel pump". So, back on goes the Facet which had worked fine before, just a bit loud. Again, lean at 5000 running out of gas. So - Couldn't be the idles, it idles fine. Must be the fuel regulator as someone said they go bad. Verified that I can run the Facet without the regulator (4#), but same behavior. Crap.
Put the 55 idles back in now figuring it must be a transition problem - well, all better - life is good.
Those idles really do affect transition! Anyway, just a lesson learned.

I really need to be smarter.

thanks!
