I am close to needing a new clutch for my 86 328

Their are the Valeo and Borg and Beck clutch kits, which are prefered?

Since I am in there anything else I should replace, main seal etc.?

Anything special about flywheel resurfacing specs?

Any tips?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,
When I replaced the clutch in my 328, I used the B&B clutch...but I'm not really sure if there's a difference.

As to what parts to replace...I always change the PP, disc and throw-out bearing. You'll need the special socket wrench to remove the lower nut inside the transfer case. I always replace this nut, as well.

The two o-rings that seal the bell housing to the engine should be re-newed, as well.

As to machining the flywheel...the less material you need to remove, the better. The thickness of a new flywheel (wear area) is 16.05mm. The maximum material that should be removed, per the WSM is .80 to 1.00mm (wear limit).

Regards,
David

No problem, Jeff...

As to your question about replacing the rear main seal: My feeling is that if it isn't leaking, don't change it...particularly if you use the car on a regular basis. Sure, you may gain some insurance or piece of mind if you change it anyhow...then again, the seal can easily be damaged if not installed carefully.

For perspective, I've done two clutch jobs in my BB over the last 20 years...but only now, because the engine was apart, did I replace the seal.

Best of luck...

Regards,
David

"don't replace FW seaL"....Now that is something you won't hear much in public..."the truth".

The one thing on a Ferrari that virtually Never Leaks is the FlyWheel Seal. I agree that leaving the seal alone is a good idea if it's presently ok.
