328 Door Stop Problem

I know I am not the only one that has had this 328 problem, which is the driver's door popping when it opens & closes because the door stop shaft (detent) in making the noise behind the panel as it goes through the rollers. My question is, can this be fixed by taking the shaft out & dressing it down in the area or does it need to be replaced, or does more than that need to be done ?

hi Robert, welcome aboad.

The first step is to have a look at it of course to see of it's broken or not. then a good coating of wheel bearing grease sometimes goes a long way on things like door stops and trunk latches. Also you may want to make sure the Hinge Pins are not badly worn. Hinge Pins can cause noise and enough door sag to misalign the door latch itself leading to it's destruction.

I have checked the rod and it is fine. Where the drift pin holds it into the door is okay. Opening the door fully open will pull the rod away from the roller and nothing is broken and the roller is not cracked. You can feel it pop with your finger when placed on the rod. I fully cleaned everything w/o taking the panel off (yet) and put some heavier grease in the detents of the rod, to no avail. The doors are aligned and the main hinges are tight. In the 328's that I have had in the past, just a good cleaning and new grease fixed it. It has not helped this one.

Ferrari doors are a PITA, I recently spent over an hour re adjusting my striker plate to get my door to close and fit properly, you may re check and see if you have an alignment issue causing the stop to bind.

Their are also 2 zerks for the door hinges you may grease them also.

Thanks, I have spent 2 more hours working, greasing and checking out the left front door. The noise is coming either from the inside roller or the second detent on the rod. The rod physically jumps, and you can feel it, when it has gone over the first detent and is starting into the second slot. That reverses when it is closing. There are two rollers, one on the outside and one on the inside and both, as well as the rod, are properly greased. I am sure there is a way around installing a new rod, and or rollers. I just have not figured out what to do yet. This same noise happened on another 328, but spray lube helped that one. Too bad it will not do the same for this one.

Any Sugestions ?
