I got a 87 328 GTS that apparently needs an engine overhaul. I thought the engine was running fine, however, I had a compression and leakdown done, and apparently cylinders 3, 4 and 5 are leaking 76, 95 and 90 percent. On the compression: cylinder 3 has 130 psi, 4 has 135 psi, cylinder 5 has 95 psi and 6 has 90 psi. Can anyone give me any suggestions? If a overhaul is needed, can anyone give me any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

JRV may, or probably is as usual right on. I would question the leakdowwn test. I gather that you didn't do it. One of the advantages of the leakdown, over the old fashoned but still used compression test is:
If the valves are where the loss occurs, you can hear it. If a low reading is shown, and a hissing is coming from the exhaust, pretty hard not to figure out it is a bad exhaust valve. If there wasn't any noticable, or excessive noise from the lower end, as listened from the oil fill for example, one an be pretty confidant the lower is still OK |

Thank You JRV and Kermit, you've put to rest many of my fears as this weekend I talked to several mechanics on the phone who told me the same thing. I didn't do the compression and leakdown myself, I had a local shop do it, in which many of the mechanics that I talked to, including your posts, seem to disagree with that shops results. Unfortunately, I paid that shop $300 for what seems to be a BS reading. Thank You Once Again Guys!
