Try the sending unit near the end of the motor by the transmission.

I lost one in my F355B last year.

Mitch,

Thanks for this. Whereabouts on the transmission - top/bottom - left or right hand side of the car? if viewed from the rear of the car. Does it have an electrical connector onto the sender unit and if so could it be loose or corroded terminals?

Mitch, Also after reading a few posts, i guess that this will log a fault code? After replacing the sender or / cleaning the contacts - do i clear the fault code by disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting?

Default Jason, I am uncertain on the 3

Jason, I am uncertain on the 348, but on the 308/328 series it is on top of the transaxle. It will have a short pigtail (two conductor) wire coming out, maybe 4 inches long, with a connector on it. Unscrewing the sensor from the transaxle, a few people had luck with flushing the sensor with electrical contact cleaner. Clean the connectors on the sensor and on the car, then re-installing. But this is iffy at best. Most of the time you will need a new sensor.

Cheers Dave,

Any idea on how i clear the fault code on the ECU? Is it just a case of disconnecting the battery / reconnecting and the system relearning?

Default The other place you will want

The other place you will want to look is the connecton on the back of the speedometer. You could have had the connector going to the speedo come loose, or off.

There are two screws on the bottom corners of the instrument housing. Remove both of them.

Once those are out, lower the stearing column all the way down. This will give you room to move the instrument housing.

Get ahold of the sides of the housing and lift it straight up.

You will now have access to the plug on the back of the speedometer.

Check to make sure is is clean and connected properly.

Have checked the speedo connection - all seems good. For the life of me i cannot locate the sensor on the gearbox. Can anyone describe whereabouts the sender unit is located on the gearbox casing?

Default It is on the left hand, bottom

It is on the left hand, bottom, side of the gear box. You have to get under the car to get to it. It is right around the area were the shifter cables are.
