Is this a common transmission problem? They seem pretty strong to me.

Default Thanks for the pictures. Helps

Thanks for the pictures. Helps me understand the T configuration better. Still working out the path of power through this set up. If you can, could you post some more pictures after disassembly? Thanks, DJ

Default Power path: Engine goes thr

Power path:

Engine goes through shaft all the way to the back of the flywheel.

Flywheel->clutch->pressure plate->tube around engine shaft to drop gear. This drop gear can be swapped to jiggle the overall ratio of the box. Mondial T, 348, 348SS and 355 provide at least 3 overall ratios to choose from.

Drop gear->90 degree gear (shown in photo)->drives transverse mainshaft

Selected gear on main/counter shaft couples power from mainshaft to countershaft. Some of the gear select forks manipulate forks on the mainshaft and some manipulate forks on countershaft to make the box more compact.

Countershaft->up gear->differential->axle.

Al most all of the heavy parts are below the centerline of the crankshaft.
