Default According to the OM and Koni a

According to the OM and Koni all 512BBs use 82-1984 rear shocks from the factory and 82-1833 fronts, the 365s use 82-1834 rears.

It appears my car has 1 82-1834 shock each side on the furthest rear wishbone which is the same as 365BB and 1 82-1827 shock each on the front of the rear wishbone, Zender did some suspension and brake tuning on this car years back as it has drilled rotors all the way around and a special pair of front calipers larger than the stock ATEs, I would assume they did this shock setup also.

Since the 365 has the rep as the rawest Boxer with the roughest ride I would assume the valving in these shocks would be stiffer and have different rebound characteristics, 2 different valved shocks doesn't make sense on each rear arm of my car unless they are trying to compensate for acceleration and braking forces, Koni had no info available as to the valving in these shocks as they are older but I would guess since the fronts have 82-1833s by themselves the lower shock number you go the stiffer the valving so 1827s would be stiffer than the 1834s.

I guess I am trying to figure out whether I should go to 4 stock 512BB shocks 82-1984 on the rear or 4 365BB shocks 82-1834 or the combination of what is on now 82-1827 and 82-1834.

Any ideas?

Default After disassembling the shocks

After disassembling the shocks turns out they are sticking in spots nothing seized but they do not operate smoothly, one was leaking. I ordered 4 82-1984 shocks for $143 each, the shock bushings were all shot except one which is stubborn and refused to come out cleanly so I ordered 8 new bushings at around $22 each, too bad you can't source these as the one good bushing left on the shocks said W.A.U 622 which means little unless you know who made them.

I also had to order 2 upper sleeves at around $22 and 2 lower sleeves about the same in price. My little piggy bank is in pieces and I still have not fixed my carbs yet, at least my ride height and handling will improve dramatically.
