Dear Ferrari Enthusiasts
On my 400i I have the problem, that sometimes the speedometer fails to display a speed. Some moments later the needle shows the speed again. This occurs specialy when the car was standing for a few hours.
Do you think resoldering the printboard with the speedometer could solve this problem?

Regards from Switzerland
Peter

Default Peter, Welcome aboard. T

Peter,

Welcome aboard.

The first ting I would do in cases like this is to check the wiring connectors from the sender up, making sure they are clean & tight and the wiring harness that the plastic shroud hasn't hardened and cracked somewhere causing some type of intermittent open circut. The speedo's can & do go bad, but leave that till you've insured it's not something simple imo.

HTH's

Default My 308 did this, a new speedo

My 308 did this, a new speedo sender fixed it right up. I noticed when shopping for a 308/328/355 last summer that ALL 308/328's had at least once, had the speedo sender replaced, some twice...

The 328 I presently own, had the sender replaced a few years ago by the PO.

Default Meanwhile I removed the speedo

Meanwhile I removed the speedometer and checked and cleaned the connector in the dashboard. For a while it looked like a successful action. But yesterday the speedometer just stopped to display again. Do you know where the sender is located and what the price for a new one is?

Hi Peter,

it's fairly common for Ferrari Speedo Generators to go bad and when they do the symptoms are exactly like you describe.

The part that sends the signal to the Speedo is called the speedo generator and is typically located on the transmission. Honestly I can't rember ever replacing one on a 400i as none of the ones I service have that many miles on them.

If you don't have a parts manuel the best option is to register at the owners site listed below in the resource link section so that you have access to their parts diagrams and the ability to order the parts right from Ferrari of UK, as they have the best prices and parts supply of anyone in the world as far as I'm aware..

Regards, JRV

Hello folks

Meanwhile my 400i has a working speedo again. It was the sender as you expected. I found it in a local Ferrari garage, they had more than one in stock.

Thanks for your help.
