My specs tell me 78-92psi is the target pressure with a warm car depending on rpm. My question is what kind of pressure is created by the return pumps in the storage tank? Will oil overflow the tank neck if the storage tank cap is removed while the car is running? I have checked the inlet strainer for the feed line.

Default Hi Sean, oil pressure will

Hi Sean,

oil pressure will have no effect on tank pressure, but capacity will. If the system is overfilled oil can be blown out of the tank, by crankcase pressure & overfilling though, not by oil pressure. The tank is filled by the scavenge portion of the oil pump not the pressure portion.

Curious question, whay are you asking?

I had to remove this tank to repair a leak that developed because of a broken weld. The tank had swelled to the point that the alt bracket and pull were touching the tank. The part usually concave running parallel the t-belt cover and alt. Had become convex. I've checked motor and oil tank mounts. And decided to start engine first time with oil cap loose. I'm wooried about pressure in the tank. Engine started fine but very quickly oil over overflowed from tank. Oil pressure light on gage was not on.

Default Sean, sounds like you have

Sean,

sounds like you have a Crankcase Pressure problem and possibly a Oil Pump oring problem.

First check to make sure the crankcase vent system isn't restricted for some reason.
