512bbi Engine Removal

Am rebuilding a 73 Maserati Bora from frame up, but have not tackled bbi as it didn't seem quite as straight forward.

Looked thru threads but did not find a step 1,2,3,etc list for bbi engine removal. Is there such a thread, and if not, as anyone captured their bbi engine removal process and gotcha's in 'word'?

Hi Mark, welcome to FTalk.

Hmmmm...I thought there would have been some outlines posted as we've discussed engine removal a few timmes.


1- disconnect battery
2- remove Engine Bonnet
3- remove rear lower Valance
4- remove both front lower wheel wells
5- remove rear heat shield, muffler & headers
6- drain oil & remove oil lines
7- loosen wiring harness to stay with body
8- remove both fuel distrib units from chassis
9- remove throttle cable & hydraulic line for clutch
10- remove coolant hoses and heater hose
11- uncouple shift rod
12- unwire & remove Alternators
13- unbolt axles at trans
14- remove motor mounr bolts
15- remove anything else afixing unit to body not mentioned above
