Has any one replaced the outer drive bearing on the altenator drive? Can the outer casing can be removed without distirbing the the shaft and gear the timing chain rides on? Have removed the drive pully, and can see a snap ring behind the outer seal. But it looks like this only holds the bearing in the outer case. And dosent lock to the shaft. Have the manual for the 2 cam car
but it is elusive on this info. Thanks Sean |

Sean,
The outer casting that supports the front bearing can be removed without removing the shaft. It sounds like you have already removed the nut, pulley and woodruf key. Now remove the fasteners that hold the bearing support to the timing case. I have two screwdrivers that I have ground the tips of the blades down very thin, with a rounded nose. Tap the screwdrivers into the joint between the support and the timing case in order to wedge them apart. At the same time carefully tap on the end of the shaft with a small brass hammer to keep it in place. Be extremely careful to not let the shaft come out of the rear bearing, if it does the chain sprocket will drop down and will be very hard to get back into place. You will need to get or make a new gasket. Brian |

Thanks Brian,
I had already moved forward with a procedure very close to yours. Thankfully the shaft stayed in place. I'm cleaning up and getting ready to reinstall. Again thank you for sharing your knowledge. And a big thanks to Ferrari-talk.com for providing a place for this. Sean Smith |
