885 TR with rough idel problems

It seems to be a real juggling act to get all of the fuel/air adjustments right on these TRs. Move on thing and two others are now out of adjustment.

Tom, Thank You for sharing your experiences with us. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Could one also adjust the switch by listening for the "click"? The only thing is, as you said, if a throttle plate adjustment has to be done, then the switch may by default be out of position. Boy am I ever looking forward to fiddling with all this stuff next spring!

Bit of an update on the TR. I finally got the car running really good. I took the car for a road test and all seemed well. I pulled into the shop and shut the car of for about 10 minutes.(to check the warm/hot start) I started the car and it ran like a bag of poop!! DAMN IT I said out loud while throwing my shop rag to the floor.

I pop the engine lid and start fooling around with electrical connections. This I now KNOW is the problem that they were trying to correct!! Fuel was starting to dump on the right side!!. Anyway..I got to the large round connecter on the right side of the engine compartment(behined the motec units) and started to wiggle...The car came back to running like a charm!! I let go of the connector and it started to run poorly again. I took the connector apart to investigate the cause, and low a behold the female pin in the connector, with a yellow/red wire had become in larged so that it was not makeing a good contact anymore. Replaced the pin..pluged back in...Let the fun begin!! Just goes to show that you must always start with the basics. Some techs out there like to start turning this and replacing that...without first finding the reason why it's running poorly in the first place. All this car needed was a 50 cent electrical pin!! and all this hassel on my part and the owners part could have been avoided. Be carful out there folks..

Tom: So what was the specific problem? What did the pin control, to cause all the problems? Was it recieving a wrong barometric reading, or was a relay not working properly, and if so, which one?

I beleive that wire goes to the protection relay. I did not have a chance to look it up in the manuel. But I'm going to have a look tomorrow. I will definatly let you know.
