Hi JRV,
I've had the first real hot days here in the desert and took the 328 for a spin the A/C did not seem to be as cold from last summer, I've turned it on periodically in the winter for maintenance also What temp should I get from my vent with R12? also since it probably leaked out should I replace with FREEZE 12 or keep the R12? Thanks PS Good luck with your new site |

Hi Jeff, welcome and thanks.
On the 328's at the lower vents (uppers closed) you should easily see 42-44 in the shade after a few minutes to allow some recirculating of the cooled and dryed air. Cruising down the highway it should be around 40 degrees at the lower vents. I'd stick with R12 as long as you can, it still cools the best imo. It's still readily availible here at least, a little pricey however. If your system is below 50% low, it would help efficiency to fully evacuate, draw down for an hour at 28 inhg to fully dry out the system and then refill. Check your owners handbook, but fill is approx. 2.5-3 lbs (don't overfill), and with the gauges still on, insure your readings are about 225/30-35 @ 1500 rpms...this will give you the 40 degree vent temp on the highway. to determine if your system is low on freon, just look in the front trunk at the sight glass on top of the reciever/dryer, if you see lots of bubbles it's low and won't cool effectively. HTH's Regards, JRV |

Hi Jeff, yes the proper equip will really get your system back to spec...>cold..
In the meantime or after, get under the dash and check the hose to the lower vents and seal it up tight so that no cold air is escaping and on the drivers side of the plastic vent tube, plug the hole on the drivers side so that you're not wasting cold air, but leave the one on the passenger side open so that it pumps some conditioned air back towards the fan inlet. Helps the system recirc a little better and will yield a few degrees lower vent temp. Best of luck with it. |
