Cool alarm system

This is my first 355 spider and can any one tell me in simple terms how the key pad works ? I only have one remote a black one . It was working ok , I turn the key and the dash light was blinking and then push the button and it blinked faster and then I started the engine no trouble.
the other day the battery was dead so I was charging it and when I turned the key the heater came on and then the alarm was sounding and finally I got some smoke out of the alarm speaker. While this going on I was pushing the button and no action so I finally just shut the battery switch off and waited. After a while I was pushing the button again and have stopped the dash light from blinking . Now it just comes on and no blinking ,, I can start the car, but the blinkers are not working nor are the 4 ways? can any one shed any light on this?? Thanks Karl

You most likely back-fed the electrical system by turning the key on with the charger going. A couple key things to avoid this issue next time:

When you park the car and put a charge on the battery turn the battery switch off. Turn the charger off, kick the switch on, always de-activate the alarm before putting the key in the ignition. Let the car sit and warm up without the a/c, lights or any other accessory on. Let it warm up for 20mins, this gives the ecu a chance to re-learn it's parameters.

It's possibly the alarm siren has been damaged and will need to be replaced. Go through your fuse panel and check every fuse, there will be atleast one that popped and it should be for the turn signals.
