Carb 32 hot cams

Quick update to those following the retro 3.2 project.

Talked with Dema Elgin for a while today. Will be adding 10 - 15 intake duration over stock 244 with more overlap. He feels no need to re-profile the exhausts. Looking conservatively for about 15 - 20 hp increase across the band (4v characteristic) at the rear wheels and more torque across the band. If all goes well, that will put me at 245 - 250 rwhp, which is at my target of 299 - 305 hp at the flywheel after losses. May get a tad more with some more ignition advance. Pretty damn good on street gas and stock 9.2:1 compression.

Will require welding, straightening and heat treating - all told looking right at $1K. It's a lot, but the sound and the engine's personality are really waking up with the Webers. Not sure of the effect of the Larini Euro stepped headers and silencer, but they are mainly for sound. Any hp increase will be a bonus.

Should get the cams back 1 March. Will install the Norwood Mallory distributor conversion at the same time. Am keeping the carbs jetted a bit rich in anticipation as I am going to have to change all of it anyway.

Dang, this is fun and I am learning a lot. I guess when I move to Texas this summer my new interests will center around air conditioning performance....

Could you give me an update on the Norwood Mallory conversion? Is this the one using the Mallory that was originally designed for the 60 HP Ford flathead V8?

I seem to recall some pictures a while back in the developement stage.

Here it is.
Will install the Mallory with the Norwood adaptor (very well done!) when I get the cams back from Elgin.
Also got a cover plate and cam plug for the other side from Kermit at Durable 1.
The Millermon conversion (easier and cheaper to install, by the way) got lost in the mail. I had plans to compare both, but the USPS made the choice for me.
The Mallory does offer more ability to set advance curves than the Millermon, and is easier to service and replace.
Until then, here's what it looks like.

I tried to get Ben Millermon to build a distributor for me but never heard back from him. I will keep the Mallory in mind.

Norwoods has a couple of good options for you. They will also convert one of your distributore using American cap and components. See their website: www.norwoodperformance.com
I think their complete conversion is about $1500 and my Mallory distributor plus adaptor is about $750; Heard from someone else just this week who had ordered and paid for a distributor that Ben has seemingly quit his job and disappeared. Not sure what is up. Oh well - hope everything's ok.

Having seen some of these American Cap conversions first hand, I would highly reccomend you see them in advance of any binding transactions.

Speaking from personal experience, I am with JRV on this one. The owner of an '82 Mondy I'm going thru ordered one from Ben, prepaid, @ Ben's insistance. So far it has been a waiting game, with phone calls, e-mails etc. going unanswered. I hope that he is just "busy", and we get what e paid for, but so far no luck. I'm not "slamming him", just stateing the situation, as I hope it all turns out well.
