Post headers glowing red

1982 Mondial/308 2V

Wow, I can't get a straight answer on this and I'm glad I found this thread. Now I just hope someone sees my dilemma and can help.

Same problem my exhaust headers is glowing big time. It's a practically new engine. I narrowe it down to two possible causes.

running rich or something to do with the timing. Now that I think I narrow it down could someone tell me how to fix it?

First thing I want to try is reducing fuel I guess. Any help would be appreciated. It seems to me that there's just two adjustments I can make either the screw below the air intake or the big air allen air screw on the top right of the air box. I don't think I need to mess with the screw on the fuel distributor since I haven't touched it.

Ideas please !!!!!!!!

Ha! Ok so I parked the car and frankly lost interest, about 3 months ago I decided that I need garage space and its time to put the engine back in...I pulled it because the headers were glowing red and frankly I didn't know what was going on...Plus I got an XDI ignition system and its just easier to work on the engine cradle off the car.
Long story short, " I think I found the problem... 3 mising nuts on exhaust headers! I believe this was why but since I replaced belts and pulled the camshafts, I noticed that one of the intake cams is not quite lining up to TDC which would affect the timing, I'm talking about a fraction off, like half a belt tooth but multiply that by RPM's and maybe my timing was screwed up too.
I should have it fixed and now with the digital timing and distributor omition...in theory... It should correct the overheating exhaust...I hope.
I'll follow up when its back in the car running, waiting on powder coating.
