Default Ok, I changed my trans. fluid

Ok, I changed my trans. fluid today. I checked the manual and correct me if I am wrong it said 1.06 gallons. Ok so a little over 4 quarts, sounds reasonable. Obviously you get the car level and add fluid until it starts to come out of the fill port. I filled it up. I then put the old oil in my quarts. I couldn't believe it there were 6 quarts of tranny fluid in there. Now am I correct that a little over 4 quarts is the correct amount. I am not sure why there was over 6 quarts of gear oil in my trans. Just want to make sure I am reading it right. Thanks.

Default Perhaps your transmission flui

Perhaps your transmission fluid was overfilled, hence the 6 quarts. I just changed the transmission fluid on my 308QV this past weekend and can state I put 4 liters (AGIP LSX Rotra 75W-90) in before it started to overfill.

Default Yes I imagine that is the case

Yes I imagine that is the case. Thanks for the info. I just can't believe that they overfilled it that much. 6 quarts is a lot. They must have either not had a clue as to how much to put in or had the only the rear end jacked up with the nose pointing down quite a bit. I used just a little over 4 quarts so I guess that is what the car should take. Thanks.

Default Having just finished this job

Having just finished this job last month, my QV took 4.5 quarts before it started to drip out the fill hole. She was sitting level on jack stands.

Same here, between 4.3 and 4.5 quarts. Car was level. Filled through the transfer case, exiting through the diff fill hole.

Default Richelson, Did you use

Richelson,

Did you use Royal Purple? I did and I couldn't believe the difference it made. Every tranny is different, but I am really happy with it.
