Default I think my MSD may be failing

I think my MSD may be failing - the box is hot and it acts down on power when underload accelleration, almost like it is not advancing.
Heat soak?
Anyone have experience with this?
thanks

They burn out all the time. That is why Nascar has a dual box setup in all their cars. I have gone through at least 15 MSD. Heat and vibration. Dominant in the market place, but not the best systems out there.

Interesting - thanks
Mine is in the Mondial's trunk now for about a year or so; I had just finished a 4 hour trip yesterday, and when I went to restart it after an hour, the car ran loke crap and the box was to hot to touch.
This am after cooling overnight, the car seems to run fine again. The box was again too hot to touch after the hour test drive this am.
Any better alternatives? Or did I just suffer from some weird vapor lock problem?
thanks

Most interesting.
Is there a particular mounting position that is more prone to this? For an example, most coils do not last well if mounted other than vertical, due to the cooling oil not covering a part of the wiring coils?

Default Agree with Bob, I see them go

Agree with Bob, I see them go haywire fairly often. When an MSD equiped engine starts crazy misfiring I'd take a serious look at the MSD as part of the early diagnoisis phase.

Default Kermit, all early 308's

Kermit,

all early 308's had the coils mounted horizontal and most have lasted well over 20 yrs so I'm not so sure that's an issue.

Well then, since it seems to be running well again, just how much of an advantage is having an MSD - I mean, would the car be more reliable with just an optically triggered high voltage coil? Would I lose much? As silly as it may seem with a Ferrari - reliability is a big deal with me.

Default Am using an MSD Blaster 2 coil

Am using an MSD Blaster 2 coil;
Perhaps it was just a heat soak problem - either from localized vapor lock in the carbs or pump, or the MSD. How do MSDs behave when they fail?

Default I would put my .02 in the MSD

I would put my .02 in the MSD is on its way out. If location (trunk) had been a problem in cooling, I would think it would have shown up a lot sooner. especially on the rollers (dyno), where there is no air movement at all.Warrantee?
