Default Hypothetical question: If o

Hypothetical question:

If one was to build a dual muffler sytem for a transverse V-8 Ferrari, which muffler would give the smoothest deepest tone and not be obnoxious?
Magnaflow? Flowmaster 60 series? adapting two Ansas?

Any and all advice welcome.

Default I am using a Flowmaster 3-cham

I am using a Flowmaster 3-chamber on my 240Z. Originally for a Chev Suburban with a 454. I still get some cabin resonation at 2700 RPM but not bad. Otherwise I have gotten many compliments on the sound.

Default Ok The guy at Magnaflow said

Ok
The guy at Magnaflow said that I would get a very low deep tone by going with design 'A' below as well as taking advantage of the X-pipe to promote scavaging as well as cancelling out unwanted sound roughness as opposed to 'B'; he recommended an 18" muffler length using either plan.
The lenths of pipe from both header connections to the muffler will be approximately equal.

Ideas? Experience?

many thanks

Default The problem that I see with &#

The problem that I see with "A" is that one could not use an exhaust gas analyzer to test the mixture.

Default Agree with Henry..."A"

Agree with Henry..."A" would need two upstream test ports. I think the scavenging effect of "A" may be benificial to overall HP gains.

Default Got back from the tubing weldi

Got back from the tubing welding shop. The US spec rear headers exiting on the starboard side are a problem to get a 180 degree turn off and still have room to have a real twin exhaust. There is room for the boxes, but the tubing bending is not looking good.
Mind you, this is not an issue for non-single cat cars as those headers exit on the port side. I'm not as keen on replacing the rear headers at this point without doing both sides and removing the air injection nozzles. So any of you pondering one of these systems with those cars would have an easy time of it.
I've also been advised it might not be a bad idea to leave the system where I could put the cat back on if needed.
So, I'm back to the original plan of a hybrid Tubi/Stebro system unless I have a flash of brilliance or someone else knows a good answer.

Default Russ, The exhaust system on t

Russ,
The exhaust system on the BB has some of these issues to contend with, as well. The solution was to exit the RHS exhaust from the header, across the car...and exit on the LHS. Ditto for the other side. So, looking at your header drawing, how about taking the rear-most header and bend tubing so it exits from the RHS muffler, hence eliminating the 180 deg. bend. The piping from the front-most header would be a little more involved, but would now exit the LHS muffler.

Whatcha think?

Regards,
David

Well, I was wondering if the large difference in lengths would make a difference - if not, then it is very do-able.

Default All, The Flowmaster is 6"

All,
The Flowmaster is 6" shorter (13") than the Magna flow, and may allow more room for the tubing curve. Will get under the car again, but the new version looks like:

I will have dual Stebro resonated tips at the end.
The big question: Do you think it will be louder than a tubi with a test pipe?
