Default Need Tech assistance, Please...

I am about to start working on a 1987 Testarossa that has been mothballed for over 15 years... I will start with ALL the fluids. plugs, rotten rubber Items ect... My major concern is the timing belt and related Items. I understand I will most likely have to drop the power plant to service these items. My question is where do I purchase the parts I am going to need for a reasonable price. Also if any one has some advice on what to replace in general I would appreciate the input.

Thank you
Big Ron

I see I had 11 views but no response, Am I asking the wrong questions, or has no one ever had to get one of these things running after a decade and a half of sitting? I would think, I should start with the pretense that I need to perform a 50 K service. I am very concerned with gel or varnish in the fuel system. If in fact the fuel system is inundated
with varnish what steps do I take to clean the system without doing further damage?

A reply would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Big Ron

I can give you a hand sourcing the items you need at probably the best price you can find. The CIS system doesn't respond well to gum. You'll want to drain the tanks, replace all of the fuel hoses and both filters and re-fill with fresh fuel before trying to fire it up. You may also have an issue with the brakes and clutch being froze and could very well require complete rebuilding of the moving hydraulics in both systems.
You absolutely have to pull the engine to service the timing belts.

Thanks Josh. I will be starting on the TR in a few weeks. I will most likely go ahead and pull the power plant and service the timing items. It would be a big box full of suck if the thing fired up and an idler or a belt took a crap. I understand that the engine is an interference motor. I'm not looking to see what the piston to valve clearance would be.. I'll write back and send Pics. of the process. As for the CIS fuel system, I have performed several fuel system re-furbs. on 80's model Mercedes automobiles. I know what a pain those can be.

Thanks

Big Ron

I've worked with guys before whom have fired up and run cars for 5-10 mins that sat for ages just to see what they're working with before doing a tear down. Personally I agree with your thought, it's not important enough to me to see what happens if things aren't right. You'll be right at home on the TR then as far as CIS goes, it's really the same system at heart. Best of luck.

I have a 1986 TR that has sat over the winter and the fuel pumps and cold start system will not run with the key . It starts when I hot wire the pumps but the cold start system does not kick in. I have replaced the key controlled services relay to no avail. I checked the fuse's and connections. The car runs good when it warms up only. Can any one help? Thanks Pete
