Well I just went through the rear brake pad change on my 77 308. Hearing a few horror stories I guess I needed to see for myself if this was a difficult job. I had noticed that while doing a monthly check my rear pads were about 3/16" thick so it was time for a change. So the change is fairly straight forward and the only area that I had a probplem with was one of the inboard plugs that cover the adjuster screw. I removed that caliber and used a chisle to get the plug out. The other one came out so this was no problem. Once you get the plugs out all you need to do is turn them using an allen wrench and you can see the pads retract. I cranked out the pistons and then cleaned and painted the calipers. I had purchased EBC red Stuff ($80) pads and it reminded me of my old Volvo pads. So used a little anti-squeel brake grease and reinstalled. Set the pad gap (between each pad and the rotor) to .004" . This was easy to do. The whole process took me 6 hrs. (no rush because I'm retired) but this included painting the Calipers and bleeding the system. I would believe that a normal pad change should take no more then 2 hrs. So just wanted to give anyone who will do this a little confidence.
