Currently have free-flow muffler on 3.2 (single 3" in, dual 2.5" out) exiting through two twin 3" open tips. Am looking at quieting and smoothing a little, and was looking at replacing the two open twin tips with 2 Ansa twin resonated tips with a 10" resonator length (somewhat like many 12 cyl F-cars).
Can anyone comment on the change in sound or other issues expected by adding resonated tips? Many thanks rt Current set-up, sounds actually better to me than previous stock or Tubi (much deeper sound), but want a little less volume : ![]() |

Russ, although I haven't installed them yet so can't attest to the noise level, I bought 2 Hooker "European" dual resonator tips from Jeg's (p/n 520-21431). They'll mate up with your exaust (2 1/2 inlet) whereas I couldn't find Stebros with that size inlet. However, they are 14" long, although the inlet can be trimmed a bit. Hope this helps,

WOW! That is exactly the right size of what I need. What kind of muffler are you mating them to? Anytime soon? Would love to hear your experience, although I'm thinking of just getting them and be done with it. The resonated section looks a bit shorter than the 10" Ansa, but the Ansa singles also require building the pair using a y connector, which gives me a length problem. Shown below is the single Ansa and the dual Hooker tips: <center><table border=1><tr><td> tip2.bmp (188.1 k)</td></tr></table></center> The Hooker tips look to be 2-4" shorter on the resonator end, but do seem that they would fit better. Any thoughts? Many thanks rt |

Russ,
I'm using a Flowmaster #42582, which is a transversely mounted (I forget which application) two inlet, two outlet mounted one each on the ends. It looks to be basically the same as your single inlet with an extra inlet. It fits well in the Mondial's mufflet area, but I havent actually mounted it yet. It's also not stainless, something that makes your setup really good looking. The tip's width fits my 8's half clamshell opening snugly (about 1/2" at the widest part)unless extended backwards about 2-2 1/2", which more than likely be the same as your grill cutouts. It actually looks better that way, IMHO. The extra length would be the chromed/black extention instead of the connecting pipe. A simple 90 deg bend is all thats needed to connect the tips without trimming the tip inlet. I still need to weld mounting tabs on the muffler and cut the connecting pipes to be sure of the final fit. Unfortunately, my project list being what it is, that won't be soon, so I won't be able to give you immediate feedback on the sound. However, for $100 for the tips plus pipe and welding, it seems to be low risk. Tom |

I think your sound will be quite interesting and different than mine; The flowmaster uses the 'Delta Flow' chevrons while I opted for a packed muffler. I think they will both sound pretty interesting - certainly better than stock! yours may very well last a bit longer as there is no packing to blow out or deteriorate. Will look at installing mine in next 2 weeks or so and let you know. best rt |
