Stebro exhaust resonators

Happy Thanksgiving all.

Have heard that the Stebro rear mufflers have removable resonators that fit in the tailpipes to provide a quiet(er) street sound and removable for the track.

Does anyone have experience or advice with these and do they perform well at noise suppression? Any photos or reference would be great.

Hi Russ,

I had a dual cat system on my 308QV that I converted to tubi and test pipes. I found that the car was just too loud. The car could be heard miles away in a busy city. Anyway, swapped the test pipes for Stebro resonators and the sound level was reduced by about half. The resonators were an exact match for the test pipes and installed easily. Pretty happy with the results.

Grant didn't answer your exact question but I do agree with his response. I have a 1992 348 tb and I have heard them with Tubi's and Test Pipes and I found them too loud and also the exhaust smell if you were driving behind one was not very pleasant. I spoke with the Stebro folks and let them know I wanted more sound, more power but not at the expense of excessive sound. They told me the best solution was to switch to their complete European muffler system which included a Performance Muffler and Resonators that replaced the Cat's and the Resonators will be an exact fit including that they will accept the O2 Sensors and Thermo couples. One last point the one you were asking about, the Muffler's tail pipes have a screen mesh insert that fit at the very end of the tail pipe, you put them in place with set screws, they will help make the exhaust note quieter. When I picked up my car (I had the whole system installed at Stebro since I live in the same city that they are based from) they hadn't put in the mesh inserts yet, so I was able to try the car without them. After a very joyous ride/sound at varying speeds/rpms I called the Stebro folks back and told them I had no need for the mesh inserts, I loved the sound at full throttle and at normal throttle the exhaust note was actually quieter then with my original exhaust. I am very happy with my Stebro exhaust and if you live in a an area such as I do where you need to have a smog test done you will appreciate the fact that you can simply un-bolt/un-plug the resonators and re-install your cats for the test with very little effort.

thanks for thr reply. I actually wonder if the inserts make that much of a sound difference. Of course, although I have a Stebro 'Euro resonator', not sure how excited they would be about making a set of mesh inserts for my tubi....
I had actually thought about finding someone to weld a set of baffled universal tips to the tubi (at a more rakish angle).

For my next trick, I hear the air injector ports have restrictive tubes sicking down in the exhaust, so I'm looking for some plugs....

Larini systems update:
Wrote back from England with following prices:
s/s Euro exhaust from headers back: 898 Pounds (sport or standard)
s/s manifolds: 998 pounds

there site says the sound is louder than stock but a 'gentleman's sport exhaust'.

Anyone ever hear one of these?

Larini makes good products. As does London Stainless.

Spoke to David Clark on the phone at Larini in London - very knowledgable and helpful. Described that I wanted something less 355 boy racer loud like my tubi (no offense anyone - it does make a huge performance difference) and more like a deep, sonorous sound like a 365gtc/4. He seemed to indicate that this may be possible, especially with the Webers. Dropped him another email today for final details (e.g. the slashed tips coming up at an angle instead of straight out, etc.) and we'll see where this goes.

Big decision is if to keep the stock headers. Guess I could sell the tubi to a 328 guy to help defray.
