Default I recently acquired 4 new 42mm

I recently acquired 4 new 42mm 3 ear KO wheel spinners for my 365 GTC4. Having refinished the borranis, I need to understand some tips from the ftalk community about the proper way to install the spinners without damaging them.
Some say a copper hammer placed on the ear and struck with a regular 5lb sledge is appropriate. Others recommend a special tool that mounts over the spinner and allows torque to be applied, although it doesn´t sound like you could tighten the spinner enough with this device. Lessons from the real world?

Zanny - both methods are acceptable. The obvious issues with a soft lead hammer are 1) risk of hitting the bodywork, 2) risk of dinging the wheels, and 3) uncertain torque achieved. However, this is what Ferrari recommended. (Doctors also once recommended drilling burr holes in the skull to let evil spirits out?).

The tool I use is designed to slip over the spinner and attach to a 3/4 inch drive. This provides for the use of a torque wrench, and eliminates much of the danger.

My vote - get the tool. Costs approximately $125 from Mike Kumor(Spelling?) and his contact information can be found on the Web. I have it if you need it, but must search a bit.

One word of caution. When using the spinner socket mentioned above, it is prudent to use a jack to support the head of the torque wrench, or to support the end of the 3/4 inch extender going to the wrench. THis provided for torque to be applied to the spinner tool without shear - that is, this prevents the wrench from slipping off.

If you need more information, or if the explanation is not clear, e-mail me at jselevan@cox.net.

Good luck -

Jim S.
