Default JRV: While I will get new wir

JRV: While I will get new wires, I don't think that they are contributing to the high HC readings......all plugs are dry, with no fouling.

I received my new vacuum gauges (X 2). I would like to at least read the manifold vacuum and adjust the air by-pass screw some.

The only convenient vacuum source, on both manifolds is coming from the back........2 hoses (one from each manifold) going to the charcoal canister. Do I "T" into them, or just disconnect them and plug into the manifold?

The WSM states the vacuum should be balanced with the idle "screws" at the base of the linkage rod, and that the by-pass screws are for fine tuning. What is your opinion?

I have just ordered a Bosch fuel injector tester. When I get into more fuel "tuning" I will check all the injectors first......sort of like checking the plugs, before doing the timing. Timing....that is another question, for later.

Yes that's the way it must be done if the balance is far enough off. You'll know when you hook up the gauges whether or not a full procedure is neccesary.

Default JRV: Would you mind answering

JRV: Would you mind answering paragraph three for me (in my last post)? This is regarding the vacuum lines.

What will I see to justify a "full" procedure?

Thanks.

Default Oh, yes the 2 elbows are fine

Oh, yes the 2 elbows are fine for the vacum source.

If you see readings too far off to balance with the bypass screws then you'll need to adjust the throttle plates. But you can't cross a bridge till you get to it. {}

OK, but do I "T" into them or just plug the vacuum gauge to the manifold, and leave the ends to the canister disconnected?

Thanks

Default I just run the gauges to the m

I just run the gauges to the manifold fittings 'no t' to eliminate the possibility of adding a possible vacum leak ftom the CC system

Default JRV: Using the 2 vacuum gauge

JRV: Using the 2 vacuum gauges I was able to get the vacuum the same, 14 in, with the idle at 1000RPM. Initially, the vacuum was off between the banks by about 3-4 in. The engine did appear to run a bit smoother.

I then did the HC/CO (the O2 sensors where left plugged in) and:

Right: HC = 850 and CO = 1.1
Left: HC = 279 and CO = 0.69

Obviously the car is rich on the right side. The car runs fine, with no problem cold, or hot, starts. Plugs are not wet.

I guess I could drive the car like this, but really would like to get it much better.

Next step?????????? Fuel mixture setting?????

Default Henry, you have to disconec

Henry,

you have to disconect the Oxy Sensors to set the mixture correctly.

otherwise the Oxy sensors fight with the mechanical settings. Without cats see if you can get away with 0.9%-1% CO...after setiing plug the Oxy Sensors back up and recheck and insure it's not hunting.
