Default While the right one looked goo

While the right one looked good, the left one was basically "mush" on some of the front fins......I could push my fingers right into this stuff. I saw NO indication of a problem from the visible back side. The car had no cooling problems before.

Default That area looked just like

That area looked just like "normal" fins, prior to pushing it in with my fingers.

As I moved the left radiator away from the body, I placed my fingers around it, to getter a better hold. I felt the finger tips of my left hand going into the radiator.

The back had no mush areas.

I would recommend to open the door, and feel the front of the radiator, for any "mush" feeling.

Default I just had the other radiator

I just had the other radiator tested.......it looked OK, but failed the test. I am having both re-cored.........just went through this with the Boxer.

IMO, if a 15+ year old car has the original radiator in it, then just re-core it, regardless how good it looks.

JRV,

You will never see this in Texas! I was told it was due to "salt corrosion". I do drive it occasionally in the Winter......oh well. Besides, they ARE 16 years old!!!!!!!!

I am installing the new ones this weekend.

If you are not concerned with originality,
Ron Davis Racing does a wonderful job building aluminum radiators, that not only cool better than the stock units, but are also less weight.

I put one in my 308 and have been very pleased.

Dave,

While I agree that an aluminum radiator is better, I had no cooling problems before. I just went the easiest route........had them re-cored.....copper and brass. Now I am good for another 16 years!!!!!!!!!!haha. I am not concerned about the weight savings with aluminum, since the car is very heavy already.

As far as originality.......NOT worth the money!!!!!!!! If I could make something better, then I will.

Thanks for the info..........your radiator looks nice.
