Trumpets for a 308's Webers
Has anyone ever seen (or, equipped their carbureted 308 with) filtered trumpets in lieu of the standard airbox/rectangular filter? I'm wondering if it's a practical means of increasing horsepower a small amount (by increasing the ease of airflow), and accentuating the "sound" of the carburetors. However, from an engineering perspective, and considering the ambient thermal conditions within the engine compartment, I'm also wondering if eliminating the standard airbox and air inlet hose which comes from behind the passenger door would facilitate air being inducted into the carburetors that's warmer-than-desired. Thinking about this, I'm recalling the droves of 50's and 60's eras competition Ferraris, Maseratis and Jaguars that used trumpets, but whose trumpets almost always protruded up through the hood (allowed for the induction of cooler air, perhaps). I'd be interested in the group's thoughts. Best, -Joe
