What needs to be done after 5 years on a Ferrari

Lets assume that you have owned your 308 for 5 years. During that time you have changed the fluids every year. Also, you have driven the car only 6K miles. So, after 5 years and 6K miles, what needs to be done to the car? Time belts and new tensioners are a must, but what else needs to be done? Do I have to do the complete 30K with new plugs, water pump, etc?

Not an expert here, but it would seem that it would depend largely on what you start with. With new cars, the baseline is constant so a question like this might be easier to generalize. But...how many miles did the car have when you purchased it, was the previous owner up to date in servicing, etc. I mean, there are some 3X8s out there with 100k miles out there. 308s were out there as early as 1976 to, so that might be quite different from the later 308s. Just from a wear and tear perspective.

My car is a 1985 308QV with 27K miles. It is fully serviced and really does not need anything (at this time). My question is is basically what does my car need after 5 years of very little use?

change the timing belts,and tensioners. Also replace the accesory belts as well. Check the valve clearnces to make sure there still with in spec,adjust as nessasary. Seeing as the cam covers will be off for the valve adjustment..have a look at the condition of the cam seals and the o-rings. If there leaking might as well replace those too.

Anytime I do a major I remove the cam covers and I always replace the cams seals, o-rings, belt tensioners. I also insepect the water pump for signs of leakage.

You should also check the condition and ph level of the anti-freeze. Old a-freeze can become very acidic and can destroy aluminum engine components,and eat away head gaskets. If it's been in there for 5 years..replace it.

Also check the braking system of the car. Be sure the parking brake is operating correctly and you had good brake pads at all four corners. I would flush the brake fluid aswell. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and this can cause corrosion in the braking system.

Change engine and gear box oil as well.

During a major I usualy check all rubber hoses and clamps. The clamps can rust thus not doing there job aswell as they should be. The hoses can start to fall apart from age. Any hose that looks suspect should be replaced. For the coolants hoses I use Gates Green stripe hose. It comes in 4 foot lengths,you just need to specify the size you need.

Check all fuel lines and the large joining hoses between the gas tanks under the car. Replace as needed. check the hoses for the fuel tank venting also. These have a habit of disinigrating and leaving you with a funny gas smell.
