Wow, looks like my original reply to this post kinda stirred the pot?? While I am all about calling out those who pretend to be a "Professional Detailer" - we know it damages the general publics overall view of those of us who have put in our time - it was never my intention to be "Negative" or make the suggestion that the originator of this thread was performing crappy work. I guess I should have qualified my post. So, I will do that now. Our business - our company - is hypersensitive to the idea of removing finish from any vehicle. We do perform high speed polishing, which everyone knows, does remove paint. And, while we use leveling products, finish is ultimately removed. My observation about the detailer in this thread using sponge, stiff bristled brushes, etc. was not intended to suggest that he did a poor job. And, no gloves and the wedding ring???????!!!!!!!!!!!!! What about the button down shirt, jeans and flip flops!?!?!?!?!?!?! My post was meant to suggest that the tools he used are, in my view, quite capable of removing and otherwise damaging the surfaces they were being used on, regardless of how good the operator may think he or she is. That, to me, applies even more when working on an aircraft ,or a car costing $200k+!!!
As for his price of - I think I read - $1k?? I believe that is, unfortunately, a pervasive thought throughout the detailing industry. Most suggest that, since the car is a $200k value, the risk is greater or the work is more invloved.. I believe it is actually more that they believe the client can afford to pay more, so they increase the price. The "Risk" mindset doesn't say much for the "Detailer's" ability or confidence. And, as for the car being a more involved job...let's be honest, most of these cars are garage queens and could, for the most part, get away with an ONR run!!
