My 1987 328 have a slight tran

My 1987 328 have a slight transmission whine in every gear. If I engage the clutch, the whine disappears. I have changed the tranny oil just recently, but didn't stop the whine. While changing the oil, there was no metal shavings on the magnetic plugs. Is this something normal, or should I start thinking about opening the tranny?

Thanks,

Milton

i had a similar problem, only

i had a similar problem, only it wasn't the TO bearing. there is a double row ball bearing pressed into the bellhousing that supports the drop gear and half shaft from the clutch. need to dissasemble the housing to get at it. brace yourself though, the bearing is just over $200.

hope it's the TO though. i ended up replacing all the bearings in the case, total was $600 in bearings -ouch!
