97 355 was towed in from the d

97 355 was towed in from the dealer today where the quoted price for a clutch job was $5000..the customer thought that was a little high and requested a second opinion. Even with Flywheel work it looks like a $2200 job, tops..maybe less.

Anyone need 355 pointers ask while I'm in the process of this repair and I can post pics & pointers.

How difficult was it to break

How difficult was it to break loose the exhaust? Otherwise it appears to be pretty easy access compared to my 308.

it was off already, this car was towed in, but 1 clamp got broken. I'll post some follow-up pics of the Dual Mass Flywheel rebuild as I go along.

Hi Bob,

A DM Fltwheel is basically a Flywheel Shock Absorber. The two seperate pieces of Mass, the steel, move independently of each other and are damped by springs, spacers and special grease. The purpose is to dampen the shock loads to the trans from the clutch and flywheel itself. Thereby reducing noise and wear. Valeo developed the early versions that were rather prone to faults....leaks & noise...the later versions are quite a bit simpler internally and longer lasting, more trouble free.
