Hi,

My A/C is not blowing cold air anymore. It worked last fall. It was serviced and converted to R134 about 2.5 years ago by a previous owner.

In a properly working 308 A/C, what is the normal interval for a recharge? Is there a sight glass somewhere on the system? The manual states every year, which I find to be too frequent.

It does not sound like my compressor is coming on either (lack of refrigerant?) and I double checked all connections.

Thank You,

Anthony

If your drier is stock there is a sight glass in the front of the car. You will have to remove the black front spare tire well. It will have 6-7 phillips screws. Remove the spare and remove these screws and it will slide out. It you don't have barrier hoses and you are using 134a then once a year would be about right. Once every 2 years is great.

Go to K-marts and buy a can of 134a with sealer and make sure the can has a gage in it.Plug it into the lowpressure port on the AC compressor. If this was converted then it will have a quick disconnect fitting on the compressor. Read the gage and look at the instructions. It will tell you how full the system is. If it is low then try to fill it. If it is empty then you need to start looking for a leak. Make sure that the fittings tight on the compressor. You can also buy a can of leak detector and read the instructions. This stuff is easy to work with but watch out that you don't get it in your eyes. It will freeze them. Also once you are charged up just get a thermometer and stick it in your AC vent and turn on the system. It should read about 40deg.
