What is the best way to get at the wiper switch assembly. Does the black shroud surrounding the steering column remove for switch access? I would like to clean the contacts of all the stalk switches - wiper, lights and turn signals.

You'll need to

You'll need to remove the steering wheel first...to gain access to the column switch assembly. A special 4-prong socket is required to loosen the steering wheel. Once the wheel is removed, you'll see a couple of small screws which retain the switch assembly. If you decide to remove the switch, versus cleaning it in place...the wiring will need to be disconected from the plug behind the dash...and pulled thru.

Good question...

You're going to need to get the steering wheel mounting hub off. The wheel is held to the hub with those allens you see. We're not concerned with separating the wheel from the hub. So...

Disconnect the battery.
Carefully remove the horn button...
It just snaps in place...
Disconnect horn wire from button...
And now you'll see the 4-prong nut...

Once the nut is removed, you may need a puller to snap the wheel free from the tapered shaft...

And low and behold, you'll see the column switch.

The allen head bolts are Loctite'd in, I believe.

I initially wanted to clean the switch contacts. My wipers do not work in intermittant mode - they operate as if they are in continuous mode, or not at all (depending on the day!) in this first switch position. It looks like it will not be easy to get to the switch!

Also, I have to remove my steering wheel (at least the allen nuts) because I want to clean and change the dash light bulbs (some are out).
