Hi,

I noticed that the battery in my '77 308 is not held down by a hold down as shown in the manual - only the top cover is in place.

Due to inconsistencies in the owner's manuals in general, I am wondering if in fact this tie-down came on all cars.

Thanks,

Anthony

My '78 GTS battery is held

My '78 GTS battery is held down by a curled lip across the aft edge of the battery tray and a removable clamp along the forward edge that slips over a stud and is held down by a nut.

The curled lip and the removable clamp are designed to hold the battery down by engaging a flange along the BOTTOM edges of the battery. Otherwise there is nothing that appears on the top of the battery itself.

Hope this clarifies things.

Thanks, I'll look on the bottom of the tray - it was dark at the time! The manual shows a piece going over the top pf the battery, but as expected, you just proved that there are inconsistencies!

Thanks,

Mine is the same as Spasso&#39

Mine is the same as Spasso's.

Anyone have a suorce for the nuts that hold down the battery cover? Mine were AWOL until I found them in the belly of the car. I quickly found out how they got there as I dropped one and it went right down the drain hole in the tire box.
However, I was only able to get one to work. The other one is so rusted I think the threads are shot.

Anthony,

My 1976 GTB has the clamp/stud/nut affair that Spasso described. I think the drawing in the owner's manual shows the battery removal straps in place over the top of the battery. I keep mine in my jack pouch.

The original battery is long-gone. My optima has a built-in handle.
