Hi,

What is the proper way

Hi,

What is the proper way to adjust the fast idle circuit?
Mine is a little too high and I would like to back it down.

Is the adjustment screw right on top of the "cam" mechanism? Can I simply back off the adjustment screw? If I want to disable this circuit, what is the easist way?

Thank You,

Anthony

I'm assuming this is a car

I'm assuming this is a carbed 308.

Then yes, just back off the screw that engages the cam dial. If you back off enough such that the screw does not hit the fast idle cam dial then it will be disabled.

Thank you - where exactly is this screw - on top of the cam?

Can I back it off with the engine cold and off?

Anthony 1st what is the presen

Anthony 1st what is the present idle rpm. Next is was it always that speed or did it change. Next is what happened when it changed. Then please check if the carpet is pressing on the accelerator peddle. You should be idleing at 1000rpm. I set mine at 1100rpm to compensate for the AC if all is well here then there is a procedure for the idle adjustment .

My fast idle was originally disconnected - my mechanic recently set it to do me a favor, but I really do not want it hooked up at all (and it is set too fast imo - 2K rpm). I backed out the screw this morning such that the cam is no longer engaging the link arm as Drew suggested.

Thanks everyone,

Anthony
