We had a great time sitting in

We had a great time sitting in all of the cars and listening to the history of each. The Chevron F5000 shown is the only F5000 (Chevy powered) to win an F1 race. They started one of two 512M's, a 308 that was raced by Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood and James Brolin, and 308 rebodied to a 288 with a twin turbo 3.2 ltr engine. Great sounds!

Really like the Bud 308 engine shots! Did you get any engine pics of the Michelotto GT/4 engine?
Looks like a great time!

It's very interesting to me that both the Michelotto and the Bud 308s use separate K&N filters instead of the cold air ram on the stock.
Perhaps I should re-consider...

The 308 suits you very well!! I really think you should make an offer....

Michelloto definately did not use chrome K&N filters on the original race motors, nor did they use the faux aero-quip fuel hoses with little clamps.

Hi JR,
Even as a registered

Hi JR,
Even as a registered user I have to sign in at least once to activate the cookies. After that I don't even have to use my password to post.

There was quite a stir last week that soured me pretty bad. Trolls picking on DES and DES finally lashed out after taking the high road for at least the year I have been visiting the site. I didn't like what happened or how it was handled but I do understand why. Too bad. I am trying to stay in my NW region area and Tech. The Off Topic area is done for me.

And yes Russ, That little GT4 REALLY grew on me.
Alas it's not for sale.

As far as authenticity, as with any car, various owners do various things to a car while not adhereing to the original design. Still a nicely done and well used car.

I'll see if I can shoot you some pictures JR.

DJ,

I'm honestly not in

DJ,

I'm honestly not interested in having Ferrari-Talk used as a venue for excuses for why Fchat is a hell hole. Additionally it's my understanding and belief that DES is also an internet Troll. You may have noticed we have no trolls here? There is a reason I fail to catagorize trolls as good trolls & bad trolls, that reason is simply all trolls are still trolls and there is no such thing as a good troll. Do you really want a so called good troll attacking you when you come here? Do you think others do? Maybe fchat should have little rooms for each member to stay in when they visit, like Motel 8...
?

As far as the Michelloto Dino, the present owner can configure to his own liking, I just didn't want Russ to be left believing that it ran LeMans with dinky chrome K&N's and not a Cold Air Box.

Regards, JRV
ps: I'm recieving your pics as I type this, I'll post over here later so other FC non-members can view them. Thanks.

I'll throw in my six or se

I'll throw in my six or seven cents.

I'll tell you what I find funny about the other forum. In the beginning when F-Talk was started there was a big deal about how heavily moderated it was when the posts being deleted were from trolls from FC. They went as far as calling JR Hitler and Napoleon Vallandingham. Regrettable behavior on their part if you ask me. JR lashed out at times and was shunned for it. Now that things are waaaay out of hand in FC, they are talking moderation and I've seen many posts in which one's ideas are ridiculed. Of course, now most agree, and support moderation. One should do a search on the archives when moderation came up. JR was ridiculed in those posts and fighting ensued. Funny how the site admin still pins all the site's problems on JR when it is plain and clear that his abrasive behavior and caustic remarks that set the precedent for rubbish. Interestingly enough, if I recall the Ferrari forum history (
) correctly JR started this site at the request of a publisher who wanted him to write a book. Ego would have it that the site admin thought of it as a direct threat to him.

I like this forum because it is based on a mutual respect and there is very little ego no matter what others may say. It is an information sharing community and we see each others as peers. If anything, those with more know-how put forth an effort to raise the unwashed masses (me, for one) to their level. As said before in praise of this community, there is tons of information here that is to the point where putting a dollar figure on it is very difficult nigh impossible.

The other site is driven by witty remarks which can admittedly be funny in the beginning but gets old very fast. Insult is the norm and because of loose moderation things get out of control to the point of factioning the readership/contributors. Egos run wild and hiding behind the "enthusiast" platform is painful to see since I consider myself one. Peer pressure abounds as witnessed by the countless of duplicate users, and it is just not a very supportive enthusiast site. Anything non Ferrari has been bashed to little bits until key members vouch for a car or until the good members (yes there are a bunch of those) realize what is being said or what they are saying themselves. Post count is king, but one should expect that given what they are charging for advertising. Funny thing is that just about all who know about this other site, know about F-Talk and I would not be surprised at the least if they frequent the site while not contributing (which is OK). Also, all posts turn into Lamborghini vs. Ferrari or get twisted into fights. Read one post and you've just about read them all. What color is you best and what wax is best is a routine question to be expected numerous times.

As for their tech section, it is weak at best. I stopped visiting because it gave me a headhache. They boast 30 posts on one thread. But the reality is 30 posts all suggesting different tactics of which none work or maybe one or two may be useful. Sifting through that is not worth it. Like throwing darts in the dark. This tech section with the help of the local (non geographically speaking, of course) experts seems to have a lot more unanimous and spot on advice. I thought the batteries on 360s were gel from the factory based on what an "owner" on the other site said. Surprise of all surprises when I saw with my own eyes how the factory battery was not. This is minor stuff. Now imagine something where your safety can be seriously jeopardized. No thanks.

Their advertisers are not screened the way they are here and negative feedback of potential advertisers or current advertisers is not taken to heart the way it is here. I've had poor experiences with an advertiser and so have some of my friends. Support from the site admin is nil. Negative comments are heavily discouraged. I find their form of moderation (via intimidation and ridicule) far worst than simply removing a post.

Phew. Done venting. Can't say I got very much out of that site with the exception of a few really good guys I met. These few have made the nuisance and ridicule worth it, so it is not a complete loss, but I must admit I met these few early on when the site still had potential. I did also meet some folks in person recently and that has been hit or miss, but again, the ones who are worth it are well well worth it.

Cheers

Thanks. Will be sure not

JRV
Thanks. Will be sure not to use the dinky K&Ns as I set the Mondial up for LeMans..

Philip Airey, who has a 308 2v with a set of factory no-kiddin' P-6 cams, also forwarded me the specs on the 308GT/4 LeMans racer with measurements for it's cold air box. Realistically, I think I am going to stay with the stock 308 air box and just buy the HP loss from the stock sized K&N filter, which is better than the paper element from my dyno testing. He and I have been through some agonizingly detailed discussion on how we are setting up our individual Weber applications shooting for approxoimately the same hp range, but using different engines and techniques (his 2v 3 liter and my 4v 3.2 liter) and though the numbers don't readily show it, our wildly different engine personalities.

Spassmeister - your pretty 308 is a GEM as it is, so wouldn't feel too bad on missing the racecar! Thanks again for the great photos! I really like engine photos as I think Maranello engines are the true 'works of art' in a Ferrari even more so than the terrific carrozeria.

best from 24 degree DC,
rt

JRV,

You took the words out

JRV,

You took the words out of my mouth...
I was looking at the Michelotto engine, and couldn't help but notice the "faux" Aeroquip fittings...They seemed a bit out of place on a race motor, particularly since Aeroquip does make specific fittings for use on Weber carbs.

David

When I think of the other site

When I think of the other site a few sayings come to mind:

"You can't make a silk purse from a sows ear"

"It's useless to feed carnations to pigs"

and for every one staying in their little sections - from that old song - "Traaaaiiiileeeeers for sale or rent, roooooomms to rent 50 cent"

I have to say that one of the best decisions & investments I ever made I owe to internet Trolls & Assholes and how dirty they made me feel associating with them, and that was taking the time & spending the money to open Ferrari-Talk & Lamborghini-Talk. My work here has been paid back ten fold from the friends I've made and the people I have met and get to associate with on a daily basis. Finally I don't feel compelled to take a shower to wash off the stench from an internet board.

Gee whiz JR,
Didn't mean to offend and wasn't trying to make excuses for the other site........just a comment relating to yours about the ugliness there. My only point about DES is he never insulted me or mine and therefore was a non-issue. I am still going to NW section because that is where my local club is. With all respect, It won't happen again.

After you pointed out the erroneous use of the K&N filters it reminded me of a thread (maybe yours) mentioning that better horsepower was realized with the cold air box over the separate filters. Maybe they are just using the K&N's for ease of tuning the carbs, access?.

I just realized that I didn't send any additional pictures of the GT4 over. I will give that a shot when I get home tonight.

It was a really fun weekend and makes the coming week a little easier to handle. I hope everyone else has a good one too.

Best Regards, DJ

>> he never insulted me or mine and therefore was a non-issue. <<

How bout I invite him over so he can start?
then the rest of us can have a good laugh at your expense.

The point is NO ONE should be "insulting/attacking" Anyone...Someone is supposed to be responsible to insure no one is being insulted/attacked whether they are your/our friends or not, "it's known as the mature, responsible way of doing/viewing things"....there is no such thing as good trolls or good insults/attacks.

Nuff said, as even these comments are in violation of the board TOS of being solely positive, so let's drop it!

The air box is a PITA to remov

The air box is a PITA to remove, but as observed here, is required for ram air effect, at speed.

Was I speeding? I can't tell!!!

I noticed those clamps too.

I go with GOODYEAR fuel/evap hose.

Goodyear is #1 in Racing!
