FERRARI, the world’s largest producer of ultra-luxury sports cars, and Sports Motors, the exclusive importers of Ferrari Maserati in Qatar, came together to organise ‘The Pilota Ferrari’ recently.
The programme, normally conducted in Italy and brought to Qatar for the first time, is a driving course which offers Ferrari owners the opportunity to improve their driving skills and techniques.
Organised by the sales and marketing teams of both the companies, the course also enables them to fully appreciate the safety of their car under a variety of conditions.
The event, held at the Losail International Circuit, had participation from 35 select Ferrari owners from the region who brought their own cars.
Alfardan Group president Omar Alfardan described the event as a natural result of the strategic relation of Sports Motors with Ferrari.
“This also conveys to the world, the huge development and prosperity of Qatar and the presence of the Losail International Circuit that helps to organise such a demanding event,” he stated.
The programme featured a classroom theory session and three driving sessions, all conducted by the Pilota Ferrari instructors, specially flown in from Italy.
Achieving the correct driving position, learning how to manage accelerator and brake, setting trajectories, apex point on bends and braking point on entering ends were dealt with in the first driving session.
The second session was dedicated to improving style and driving skill while the third session was about over-steering and under-steering in well-defined spaces on a slippery surface created by injecting water onto the tarmac.
The third session also involved a sort of competition with time calculation, with the first position won by Qatar and the second and third by Kuwait.
Sports Motors sales and marketing vice-president Mohamed Kandeel announced at the conclusion of the event that his company plans to organise more similar programmes in Qatar.
